Swedish or deep tissue — which is right for you?

Firm focused pressure easing a tense back

It is the question we hear most at the scent bar: “I want it firm — but not painful?” Here is how our therapists think about it, so you can book with confidence.

Choose Swedish when…

You want all-over ease, better circulation and an hour of mental quiet. Swedish uses long gliding strokes and rhythmic kneading at medium pressure — the best all-rounder, and the friendliest first massage. Tired legs, desk shoulders, restless sleep: all Swedish territory.

Choose deeper work when…

One specific spot keeps complaining — the knot between the shoulder blades, the hip that clicks, the neck that never fully turns. Focused deeper techniques (like our four-hand or royal sessions) spend more time per area with slower, heavier pressure.

The golden rule

Deeper is not better — matched is better. Pain makes muscles guard, which defeats the purpose. The ideal pressure is “good hurt at most”, and you can recalibrate it with one sentence at any moment. Many regulars alternate: Swedish one month, focused work the next.
